Andrew John Young was a clergyman and poet. He was born in 1885 and educated at Royal High School, Edinburgh University. Originally he was a school teacher. After 35 years of his birth he moved to Hove in Sussex, England. He became the Vicar of Stonegate in 1941. He was made a canon of Chicheslester Cathedral seven years later. Andrew John Young made his mark with his nature poems. His published works include 'Songs of Night' 1910 and 'Booz and Ruth' 1920, 'The Bird of Cage' 1926, 'The Shepherd' 1931, 'The Winter Harvest 1933, The White Blackbird' 1935, 'The Green Man' 1947 and 'Into Hydes'. Edinburgh University conferred an honoray LL.D. on him in 1951 and in 1952 he was awarded the Queen's Medal for poetry. He died on November 25, 1971.
